The Synopsis for The Devil's Rock (2011) 720p

On, June 5, 1944 in the early morning hours before the opening of the invasion on D-Day, a commando team, consisting of two New Zealander's, Captain Ben Grogan (Craig Hall) and Sergeant Joseph Tane (Karlos Drinkwater), land on the one of the Channel Islands, which are occupied by the German Army. Their mission is to sabotage installations there to create a distraction from the actual landings at Normandy. Using kayaks they land on the beach, navigate the land mines, then climb up to their target: a large artillery gun overlooking the English Channel. They are confused by the lack of German patrols on the island and puzzled by strange screams coming from the German's main bunker. They find the gun unguarded and wire it with explosives. While they are placing the charges a German soldier (Luke Hawker) comes running out of the entrance of the underground bunker. Although he seems less concerned about running into the enemy than getting away from something in the bunker, the New ...

The Reviews for The Devil's Rock (2011) 720p

Minimalistic horror, well done and tastefulReviewed bysideriteVote: 8/10

A little gem in the mud, The Devil's Rock presents two New Zeelanders, working for The Allied Forces and coming to sabotage a canon on a lone island, and getting more than they bargained for.

The film itself did not feel like a horror movie to me. I mean, yeah, it involved demons, death and gore human entrails, but it felt more like a small addendum to Raiders of the Lost Ark. I could see it now: the scene where Harrison Ford jumps on the German submarine and then "Meanwhile, on an isle in the British Channel" and this film. At no point in it I felt fear, but I was intrigued all the way.

Jokes aside, if you look at the cast there are only a few people and only three actually having any important role. The story is simple, but the plot complex. The actors play well and there is a dreadful atmosphere in the settings and soundtrack. Overall, I liked it.

Very Nicely Done, If You Love Scary MoviesReviewed bygbjayVote: 10/10

Having a lifelong love, deep interest, and passion in film-making, and finished properties, I've been mislead into many Horror/SciFi dramas of foreign origin, merely to be disappointed. Not so with "THE DEVIL'S ROCK". It's making should have been fiscally prudent, with --I presume-- filming in a virtually narrow, perhaps singular area, and a minimalist's Cast. Of course, I'm pleased that Director "Paul Campion" has foresight, and insight to accompany his artful cinema-graphic storytelling.

Without giving away a single thing, "THE DEVIL'S ROCK", though not exclusive in eeriness, drama, suspense, and cunning, it satisfies in a manner that leaves one wanting more by its end. Grab the Popcorn, Chips, Drink, whatever, and turn the lights way down, and the 5, or 7.1 way up. I'm sure John Carpenter loved this one, too... --GBJ

Surprisingly Good!!Reviewed bycreativemindinVote: 10/10

No doubt this is a low budget movie, but it comes pretty high in terms of delivering a decent entertainment. The acting is superb, direction is great and the move manages to hold your attention all the way. In spite of the low production, the move is far more intelligent than many of the other high budget horror flicks/series I have seen recently. In fact, the move is a refreshing change from the gore/slash that seems to have defined the current horror genre. I will rate this move about 7/10 but have rated it higher because, as mentioned by another reviewer, the current rating is ridiculously low. I suspect the low rating is because of people who see a few minutes and don't really give the move a chance. I almost stopped it after few minutes thinking this was another one of those home productions that will steal a couple of hours out of my life. So glad I didn't.
