This movie is for passing time, turn it on and browse on your phone. But when you start to pay attention, some of the details, character decisions and dialogues seem cringy and also not much action here, motives not convincing, cheesy turn of events. Infinity chamber also explored similar topic and it is far superior in my opinion. I can give 4 stars to encourage exploration of such topic in movies, but something in this is lacking. it's close but sorry i just can't call it decent.

The Synopsis for Tau (2018) 720p
Once a street-smart drifter, Julia (Maika Monroe) is the latest person held captive, a body and a mind to be exploited in a fatal experiment. The only thing standing in the way of her freedom is TAU, the advanced artificial intelligence developed in secret by Alex (Ed Skrein), her masochistic and enigmatic captor. TAU is armed with a battalion of drones and robots that automate Alex's futuristic smart house and laboratory, the walls lined with screens that visually transport it from grassy plains to the depths of space. TAU's potential is only limited by his understanding of the world he exists in, but TAU is ready for more. Julia, showing resourcefulness and courage, must race against time to bridge the boundaries between man and machine, connect to TAU and win her freedom before she suffers the same fate as the six other subjects who came before her.

If you crave sci-fi, AI you may find it passableReviewed bymilinskisVote: 4/10
An intriguing movie that posits a central question of what is a person? That AI can be argued with, influenced, persuaded because if it simulates human mind, then it is capable of desire, curiosity, morality. It teaches that blind obedience is not a substitute for AI. AI creates a mind capable of decision making given evidence to work with! Quite remarkable for a little Netflix original!
This is the type of movie a high-schooler aspiring to be a film producer would make in his spare time on a low budget. Ask a friend with a big house and the nerd friend whizkid to do some editing. It's pretty bland and lacks substance. But it's not terrible. Not the type of movie you show to hype up a crowd or even enjoy alone, if I'm being honest. There's a very niche mood you have to be in, one where you want to watch an emotionless sci-fi movie with a single interesting idea. It happens. I was gonna give it a 5 but I saw some of my other 5s and it was honestly less enjoyable, so 4/10.
